Meet Emily!

Hi, I’m Emily - Art Therapist & Professional Weirdo

Sometimes the truest thing you can say doesn’t come out in words - it comes out in a shoe box, some glue, and a tiny cardboard version of exactly what’s going on inside you. That’s the kind of therapy I offer: you-led, a little funny, compassionate and judgement free. I lean on humour, metaphor, and playfulness to get to the hard stuff sideways, when going straight at it feels impossible.

I’m a registered psychodynamic art therapist and talk therapist, trained at OCAD University and the Toronto Art Therapy Institute, with a certificate in Trauma-Informed Mindful Movement from the University of Toronto. I am also an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) instructor.

My work draws on humanistic and experiential therapy, play therapy, positive psychology, Internal Family Systems, somatic and mindful-movement work, and a lot of metaphor-building, because one lens rarely tells the whole story.

Sessions are led by you. If you want to talk it through, excellent. If you want to create art and not say a word, that’s perfect. I am here to follow you through your experience and epiphanies, and offer insight and support along the path.

I work with kids and adults, starting from ages 5+, and I especially love working with neurodivergent folks, particularly those with ADHD and high-functioning autism. I, myself, am neurodiverse, with a late-in-life ADHD diagnosis, so I bring in lived experience to treatment. I understand the challenges, but I also am enthralled by the beauty and triumphs that being neurodiverse can allow! I’m also a fierce advocate for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. My space is proudly queer- and trans-affirming.
Be exactly who you are, because I embrace you no matter what.

With kids, commitment from parents is an essential part of therapy, because challenges rarely exist in a vacuum. This would mean occasional parent check-in sessions for home strategy. With adults, I just want you to bring your whole self into the room. I’m not here to judge, and I’m not here to solve it for you, I’m here to help you unlock it.

Off the clock…

I’m probably being harangued by my three cats, adjusting to life with a new baby, or elbow-deep in a ridiculous Halloween costume that’s taken over the living room. I’m a self-declared papier-mâché aficionado and hand-sewing devotee (but still find the sewing machine intimidating). I also write an unusual number of birthday cards and thrive in organizing my messy basement.

If any of this sounds like your kind of therapist - the kind who takes the work seriously and takes themselves a little less so - I’d love to work with you.

welcoming new clients!
